Sommer Blackman

Sommer Blackman is a contract attorney at Grant Attorneys at Law PLLC. She is admitted to practice law in Ontario, Canada and New York. Her practice areas include entertainment, trademark and copyright law.

Sommer received her Bachelor of Science from the University of Toronto, where she double-majored in Psychology and Communication, Culture & Information Technology. She obtained an LL.B from Cardiff University School of Law & Politics as well as an LL.M specialized in intellectual property from the University of New Hampshire Law School. During her LL.M degree, she was a student-attorney in the Intellectual Property and Transactions Clinic where she focused on helping clients negotiate licensing deals and secure trademarks and copyright protection for their works.

Prior to joining Grant Attorneys at Law PLLC, Sommer worked as an Attorney in Toronto, Canada. Her practice focused on residential and commercial real estate transactions, trademark, copyright and entertainment law. Her entertainment law clients included: musicians, producers, authors and influencers. This work ranged from reviewing contracts to negotiating more favorable terms for her clients. Sommer is committed to representing entertainment law clients and guiding them through their creative endeavors.

Sommer grew up deeply immersed in music; she is a classically trained pianist and played the alto and tenor saxophones for 7 years. She also enjoys educating the community about their intellectual property rights. Last year Sommer developed a free workshop series called ‘Creative Rights’, where intellectual property and entertainment lawyers impart their knowledge on the legal aspects of being a creative; and creatives share their experiences of working in the industry.
