The USPTO will increase certain trademark government fees starting on January 18, 2025, and certain patent government fees on January 19, 2025. Below are some of the most common situations in which you may be affected by the fee increases. This is not an exhaustive list of the fee increases and new fees.
Trademark Fee Increases
All new applications filed on or after January 18, 2025, will incur a $350 filing fee, per class.
If the application includes any manually entered descriptions of goods and services (instead of populated from the USPTO ID Manual), there will be an additional fee of $200, per class. There is an additional fee of $200 for every 1000 characters in the description of goods and services beyond the first 1000 characters. The total fee per class will depend on the length of the descriptions of goods and services in each class.
An additional surcharge of $100 will be incurred for any filed applications that do not meet certain requirements. This would apply to applications that were filed prior to January 18, 2025, but have not yet been reviewed by the USPTO
