Kristin is the managing attorney at Grant Attorneys at Law PLLC. Admitted to practice in New York and before the United States Patent and Trademark Office she represents individuals and companies in the areas of business and intellectual property law. With a client base spanning a broad range of industries she provides counsel on the acquisition, protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights as well as industry specific business and compliance issues.
Kristin received her Bachelor of Science from Howard University, where she majored in Chemistry, and her Master’s in Business Administration from the University of Wales. A graduate of New York Law School, she focused her law school education towards learning about issues in business and intellectual property law.
Prior to forming Grant Attorneys at Law PLLC Kristin worked as a patent consultant at AltSchool, Inc. – a community of micro-schools using various technologies to streamline the learning and administrative processes. At AltSchool Kristin worked with several software engineering teams through various stages of the patent process. She provided opinions on the patentability of inventions, conducted prior art searches and drafted search reports, drafted and filed patent applications, and responded to office actions.
Kristin gained valuable experience in intellectual property law and licensing while interning with Ladas & Parry LLP and working as an associate at The Law Firm of Spektor & Tsirkin P.C. Between these two intellectual property law firms, she was exposed to a wealth of legal issues in the areas of patent, trademark, trade secret and copyright law.
Kristin is a member of the New York Intellectual Property Law Association, the National Association of Patent Practitioners, the New York State Bar Association – Patent Law Committee, the New York City Bar and she serves on the Board of Directors of the New York Law School Alumni Association.
Nicoletta is an associate at Grant Attorneys at Law PLLC. She represents clients at all levels in a wide variety of industries, including film, television, music, fashion, theater, advertising, new media and publishing.
Nicoletta has both transactional and litigation experience as it pertains to the entertainment and intellectual property fields. Her entertainment experience extends to working with clients to create unique brands from start to finish and helping to implement brand protection and enforcement strategies throughout all media. She conducts copyright clearances for artists and companies, drafts and negotiates talent, recording, publishing, distribution, and finance and license agreements, among others. She also counsels clients on talent procurement, rights acquisition, licensing, compliance with union and guild requirements, and infringement related matters.
Nicoletta also handles preliminary and comprehensive trademark clearances, the protection, maintenance and registration of domestic and international copyrights and trademarks, and the enforcement of trade dress and other IP rights. She regularly advises clients on a wide range of IP matters, including selecting trademarks, licensing, use and notice, brand expansion strategies, joint ownership and domain name issues. She conducts opposition and cancellation proceedings before the TTAB, and drafts and negotiates license, settlement, co-existence and non-disclosure agreements.
Nicoletta also has experience with right of privacy and publicity, celebrity branding and endorsements, copyright terminations, fair use, exploitation of rights and First Amendment issues. Her legal experiences range from working with prominent mid-sized to boutique entertainment law firms throughout Manhattan to working in-house at the luxury fashion company, Coach, Inc.
Nicoletta received her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Western Ontario, where she majored in Psychology. Thereafter, she received her Juris Doctor from New York Law School, where she maintained a focus throughout her legal education in the areas of entertainment, business and intellectual property law.
Nicoletta is a member of the New York City Bar Association, New York State Bar Association – Entertainment, Arts & Sports Law Section and American Bar Association – Forum on the Entertainment & Sports Industries. She also dedicates her time to the Safe Passage Project, as a pro bono attorney assisting indigent youth with family and immigration law related matters.
David is of counsel at Grant Attorneys at Law. Admitted to practice in New York, his focus is on working with start-ups in the areas of trademark and contract law. David received his Bachelor of Science from Portland State University, where he majored in Philosophy. David graduated from Regent University Law School, where he competed nationally in appellate advocacy, was a graduate assistant for professors in the fields of intellectual property and contract law, and graduated in the top 30% of his class. During law school David gained valuable experience as a legal intern chosen for the elite United States Air Force legal internship. The following year he went on to serve as a legal intern for the United States Coast Guard.
David has worked in both the non-profit sector and as a entrepreneur. As an entrepreneur David launched Cohesive Design, a branding and graphic design company, which served businesses in the formation of brand identity and communication. His background gives him a first hand understanding of the issues in branding from both a legal and business standpoint. In the non-profit sector David has worked with NGOs and churches since 1999. When he is not wrestling a contract, he is wrestling his boys: Leon (6) and Solomon (4). David has been married to his wife Bethany for ten years.
Leah is a law clerk at Grant Attorneys at Law PLLC where she assists in various areas of business and intellectual property law including trademarks, copyright, trade secrets, domains and licensing.
Leah received her Bachelors of Arts from Stony Brook University where she majored in Political Science and minored in Dance & Somatic Movement. In 2015, she worked as a Judicial Intern for the Honorable Freda L. Wolfson in the United States District Court of New Jersey. As a judicial intern, Leah gained invaluable legal research experience and regularly observed federal litigation proceedings. Leah currently attends New York Law School and will receive her Juris Doctor degree in May 2017.
